Solutions to Canada’s Housing Crisis Can Be Found In The Forest

Take Action
To address the housing crisis and support the 1-in-5 Canadians unable to find affordable housing, Canada needs to construct nearly 6 million new homes by 2030. At our current pace, we’ll achieve just one-third of that goal.

What's This About?

Across the country, Canadians are feeling the direct impacts of the housing crisis. Today, 1-in-5 Canadians cannot access affordable housing and we're currently on pace to build just one-third of the 6,000,000 new homes needed to meet demand.[39]

Canada’s forest sector can offer an expedient, economical, and climate-smart solution to this problem, helping Canada build the homes we need faster and more-efficiently. Modular wood-based building systems not only reduce the waste, noise, labour, and time required to erect a structure — a significant advantage for building projects quickly in densely populated areas — but require less energy to heat and cool long-term and, in some cases, can reduce the carbon footprint of construction by up to 25%.[16][17]
